Here We Go Again

Holocaust: 6 million dead

The world in form of the UN vowed it would never happen again.

Rwanda: 800,000 dead

We watched and did nothing.

Sudan: 400,000 dead and we're still watching.

Time's up. We need to do something.

gen·o·cide n.   The systematic and planned extermination of an entire national, racial, political, or ethnic group.

Crimes of War in the Sudan:

  • Pitting ethnic groups against each other
  • Restricting international humanitarian access, which threatens mass starvation
  • Bombing civilian targets with aircraft
  • Razing villages
  • Targeting and destroying food and water supplies
  • Abducting children
  • Raping and murdering women and young girls
  • Castrating and attacking men
  •
If those who have the power to make change (us) ignore those they can help, what atrocities will we be accomplices to? It is convenient to blame the government and the UN for not preventing such horrors, but the UN is an imperfect organization in an imperfect world, and it is only capable of as much as what the member states will allow. Canada is a member state, we are members of Canada, and, personally, I don’t want to allow any country’s political groups, or any groups for that matter, to roam the countryside, raping and murdering anyone they wish. The first step to solving an issue is to become educated and form an opinion on it, then it is possible to work towards fixing that issue. Become educated, become active, and let's to create a better world.

Good for you for publicising this!

The adage "Never again" was first used after the Holocaust but the world didn't learn. The world let it happen in many places like Rwanda and now Sudan.

Kudos to you for giving a damn about these people and their fight for life!

GENOCIDE IS GENOCIDE! THIS COULD NOT BE ANY MORE CLEAR- IT IS GENOCIDE!

I like your ideas, although with Martin and his government in power, I somehow doubt anything will happen. But then, if Canadians did vote in a Conservative government that would take more action, we would be blasted as being "too American". I think we need to pressure whatever government we have to do the right thing. To stop being (scuse my french) pussies in the UN. We need to pressure the UN to step in on the Sudan/African crises and do something, stop throwing money at different factions. Good site though, good on ya

I concur with TheFeebleStrengthofOne.. but also note... i still have my wristband, though i lost my simple plan album... perhaps if we snapped trendy like for each the deaths in Darfur people would take notice... no, wait...maybe we could get the people who are still living in the Sudan to snap their fingers (if they have the strength) it would send a powerful message to the west...

You are the first person to have an opinion on somethign on this waste void that is called msn. Humanity has hope. Yes, you are right, the situation is Sudan is something horrid that is countinuing at an destructive rate. The UN, in my opinion is much to bucratic, they talk and do nothing. They let this happen, as they have in Rwanda because Africain countries have no power and influence. Your doing the best thing possible for a civilian you making people aware of what is happen, of what is going to happen if our governement and us don't do anything. You should start an orgasation, or hell I will. If you do I will support you, join you. We cannot let this happen again. I agree with you, and thank you for showing some sympathy.

I'm soooo glad someone is doing something, even just raising awarness. I just need to say that I can't believe this is happening to our world again. Hopefully one day people will realize that just because it's not in our country, it doesn't mean it won't affect us eventually. I hope a lot more is done and that the media will start putting an emphasis on it so the whole world can get involved. If we did for the tsunami, we can do it for darfur.
